Michaela Hayes Rejoins Team in New Leadership Role

Alameda Health System Foundation (AHSF) is excited to welcome back Michaela Hayes, MHSA, GPC in a new leadership role for the organization. Ms. Hayes rejoined the team as Vice President of Partnerships and Engagement on March 1, 2021.

“Michaela is the consummate thought partner. The depth of her experience in fundraising, particularly institutional giving, is hard to match,” said Preston Walton, President of AHSF. “Coupled with her commitment to equity and social justice, she will undoubtedly help the Foundation elevate our work to the next level.”

Ms. Hayes has dedicated her career to social good, leveraging her experience in fundraising and marketing communications to advance the work of public health, education, and youth development organizations, including as Principal of Hayes Marketing and Communications.

Ms. Hayes returns to AHSF from the University of San Francisco, where she served as the Senior Director of Corporate and Foundation Relations. Ms. Hayes initially supported the development division in a consultative capacity, assessing their portfolio of institutional partners and identifying funders for the university’s Black Achievement Success and Engagement initiative. She stepped into her most recent role at a critical time and was instrumental in securing funding for the university’s COVID-19 response, as well as for various social justice initiatives, capital needs, and pipeline programs for underrepresented students.

During her previous tenure at AHSF, Ms. Hayes played an integral role in expanding the organization’s corporate and foundation relations strategy, building relationships with institutional partners to increase grant revenue from $300,000 to over $24 million in just seven years. She managed complex grant cycles, cultivated new partnerships, and secured multi-million dollar gifts for AHSF. She also helped ensure the sustainability of countless Alameda Health System programs as a thought partner and consultant for clinical leaders on program development and evaluation.

“It’s wonderful to welcome Michaela back to the Foundation,” said Michael Gomez, Chair of the AHSF Board of Directors. “Her broad experience and proven success in institutional fundraising, strategic planning, and communications, combined with her deep knowledge of AHS, makes her a uniquely qualified addition to our leadership team.”

In her new capacity, Ms. Hayes will lead the newly formed Partnerships and Engagement team, which encompasses AHSF’s corporate and foundations relations function. She will also help drive the visibility of AHSF in the community, overseeing the organization’s branding and communications strategy.
